Fire U-16 squad closes Spring Showcase with a victory

Beat BW Gottschee NYC 2- 0 in final match in Florida

After settling for draws in their first two matches at the Spring Showcase, the Fire Academy U-16 squad concluded the event with a win on Tuesday.

Chicago defeated BW Gottschee NYC 2-0 on Tuesday in Sarasota, Florida to extend its unbeaten streak to six matches and improve to 10-5-8 overall.

Elliot Borge put the Fire ahead for good when he scored in the seventh minute and Henrik Egly got the final score in the ninth minute.

Sam Euler recorded the shutout in goal as Chicago held consecutive opponents scoreless for the first time this season.

Joining Borge, Egly and Euler in the starting lineup were Keaton Albert, Peter Beasley, David Caban and Drew Conner.

Rounding out Tuesday's starting 11 for the Fire were Jesus Medina, Victor Pineda, Patryk Ruta and Anthony Torres.

Luis Barajas and Luis Medina both entered the BW Gottschee NYC match for the Fire during the 40th minute.

In Monday's match at the Spring Showcase, the Fire settled for a scoreless draw with the San Diego Surf.

Zak Allen picked up the shutout in goal for Chicago, which has now had shutouts in three of its last four matches.

Joining Allen in the starting lineup were Giovanni Sanchez, Joel Salmeron, Manny Rios and Mitch Reavis.

Also in Monday's first 11 for Chicago were Luis Medina, Johnny Contreras, Caban, Beasley, Barajas and Albert.

Lalo Cuautle entered the match during the 37 minute while Conner and Egly stepped on the field in the 41st minute.

The U-16s return to action tonight when they play host to the Chicago Fire in a 6:30 match at Argo High School.

Chicago wraps up the regular season this weekend with matches against Sockers FC and FC Milwaukee at Toyota Park.
